Monsoon update

I feel like there are a lot of things going on about which I'd like to blog, but I see that an unusual, morning monsoon storm cell has formed up just west of my house. Since lightning and computers don't go well together, I'll need to keep it brief.

I rode from the Genser Trailhead over to the 36th street area in early July with Veelz and a coupla' other guys. I had a great time, which made me think I might should back off on being such a loner/misanthrope all of the time. It's good the ride was so enjoyable because, not long after, the monsoon season made its formal entrance and jacked the dew points up beyond sultry.

I kept right on bike commuting but had to back off on the weekend rides, at least until this morning, when I rode the singlespeed over to the trails at Greasewood Park. And this is not to say the humidity wasn't bad, because last night's rain had left the air absolutely steamy. I did a few laps, successfully weaving between the out-and-about millipedes, but failing to avoid barging through a few clouds of tiny, flying insects. They stuck to my sweaty face and arms, and I came home looking like a gigantic strip of flypaper. In fact, I'd perspired so much that I lost a pound in just under an hour, which is good, because yesterday, I was suffering from a case of what I can only describe as "24-hour cankles". Coincidentally, July is cankle awareness month. Ah yes, summertime.

In between the two July rides, I became occupied by my resurgent interest in disc golf. I was really into it back in Sacramento and played literally hundreds of rounds. I lost interest in the game, throwing only a single round since moving back here to Arizona. BeanSS finally got me to go to the Santa Cruz River course with her and we had so much fun that I wondered why I'd given it up for so long. It's nice to see that I'm just as good at it as I was in NorCal. Or maybe I'm just as bad.

OK then, the rain is here and I'm expecting to hear thunder any time now. Gotta' run.
