Going into Labor

I'm two-thirds of the way through the Labor Day weekend and walking the dogs a couple of times has been the most exercise I've had so far. BeanSS and I were all set to ride our road bikes this morning, but we were overtaken by events. And by events, I mean that we stayed up too late and when we did finally wake up, we decided we didn't want to brave the oppressive humidity outside (it had rained for hours last night). Maybe tomorrow.

Ultimately, missing out on a road bike ride is no big loss for me, as commuting to work by bike gives me all the asphalt exposure I need. I've been unable to find a used motorcycle I can afford and so, I went ahead and bicycled right through the summer, getting to 100 rides earlier this month. By early September, I'll probably reach 1,000 miles' worth of commuting. June's nearly unbearable heat and July and August's stifling humidity have left me spent, and I'm looking forward to the break that the upcoming cooler weather will provide.

So, now that I've managed to seamlessly incorporate both my frustration with the fruitless search for a motorcycle and the inversely related bike commuting statistics into a post, what else is there to say? Not a whole lot, really. I did see a few pretty good birds from the front yard this month. The two best ones were the stunning male rufous hummingbird that buzzed through on his way south and the zone-tailed hawk that made appearances on successive days last weekend. Fall will see the passage of additional raptors. Many will simply migrate through while others will winter right here in Tucson. I'll have to keep my binoculars and spotting scope handy.

OK, no more posts until I've actually done something.

A large, wooden horse? Yes, bring it in!

I am at long last back on-line. I stupidly let a Trojan virus into my machine and was out of action for three weeks; one trying to fix it myself and another two waiting to get it back from the shop.

What's more frustrating is that after having been away from this blog for over a month, and being so excited to log in for this post, I find that I have nothing substantive to say. Perhaps as autumn moves nearer, when being outside doesn't risk a heat stroke and/or being carried away by mosquitoes, I'll have something more interesting about which to write.
